Homemade Cough Syrup – Easier than Pie!

All natural for me please!

I don’t make pie, it isn’t easy for me, but this cough syrup is!!  It’s that time of year when people start coughing, and it gets shared and shared and shared again.  My kids start coughing and I just whip a batch of this up to nip it in the bud before it grows into something big.

This little recipe helps with all kinds of coughs, from the tickly ones to the deep chest ones.  One of the best things about it, is it doesn’t taste bad, it doesn’t have any weird food coloring or artificial flavors, and you can make it with stuff you already have in your cupboards.  And it’s really cheap!

Cough Syrup Recipe

-          Onion

-          Raw Honey (the kind that tastes good)

Roughly chop ½ to 1 whole onion (depending on how much you want to make).  Place the onions in a double boiler on the stove and cover the onion with honey.  Turn the heat to high (just to get the water boiling in the bottom pan) then turn the heat down and let it simmer for 15 – 30 minutes.  Strain the onions out of the liquid, let it cool and use!

Take a spoonful as often as needed to soothe the throat from coughing.  My 3 year old refuses to take this from a spoon, however, she LOVES it if I give it to her from a dropper.  So I fill a 2 oz jar that has a dropper on the lid and give it to her 2-3 times an hour.  Works like a gem.

This cough syrup won’t suppress a cough, like medications you’ll find at the store.  The honey soothes the throat, and the onions actually work with the body to help it get rid of the cough – meaning it helps the body cough more effectively while fighting the cause of the cough, the disease the body is trying to get rid of.

I used this for my kids as winter set on, when they had the beginnings of a cough.  It cleared them right up and they haven’t had any coughing since!

Easy, inexpensive medicine at home, that’s what I’m loving about my School of Natural Healing Course!  I can take care of my family, with stuff I have in my cupboard.  I love it!
